About Us
History
FreeNAC was developed for internal usage by Swisscom Innovations in 2004. It started as a way of providing transparent LAN access control and roaming based on VMPS.
In August 2006 the core modules were published as OpenSource, and the FreeNAC.net website was launched. We are committed to maintaining all core, interfaces, and database schemas completely open (GPL: the Gnu Ppublic License).
Swisscom Innovations now sells an Enterprise version of FreeNAC via the Internet, and via local resellers. The Enterprise version is aimed to cover customer needs not addressed by Cisco/Juniper/Microsoft, and should help to finance core development.
We aim for FreeNAC to be:
- A leading OpenSource 'NAC' i.e. LAN access control, product,
- A first class, flexible alternative to proprietary products
- The centre of a vibrant NAC user and developer community
- Continuously improved
Why Open Source?
FreeNAC uses many OpenSource modules (Linux, OpenVMPS, FreeRadius, MySQL, FreeTDS .. ) and we wish, in turn, to contribute to the further development of Open and Free ideas and software development.
