FreeNAC was developed for internal usage by Swisscom Innovations in 2004. It started as a way of providing transparent LAN access control and roaming based on VMPS.
In August 2006 the core modules were published as OpenSource, and the FreeNAC.net website was launched. We are committed to maintaining all core, interfaces, and database schemas completely open (GPL: the Gnu Ppublic License).
In 2010, the project was frozen as Swisscom did not wish to exploit it commercially. Since then Freenac has been updated as needed for the internal implementations. See also github.
Why Open Source?
FreeNAC uses many OpenSource modules (Linux, OpenVMPS, Freeradius, MySQL, FreeTDS .. ) and we wish, in turn, to contribute to the further development of Open and Free ideas and software development.
